This activity will bring a class together to create a patchwork quilt. There is also a writing topic to assess what the students have done. This was taught in conjunction with Alice Walker's short story, "Everyday Use" but can be modified for any story that teaches students about heritage and family culture.

Before becoming a teacher, I was a substitute teacher as I attended my undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Geneseo. I have been a high school English teacher in New York State for 10 years. My undergraduate work consisted of Secondary Education with Concentration in English and History from SUNY Geneseo. My master's degree concentrated on integrating technology into the curriculum from the University of Phoenix Online. Many of my lessons integrate the use of technology in some way. I have been a teacher author for Teachers Pay Teachers since March of 2007.
