I have created cards for something called Category Words. Instead of wasting time during transitions, you can use the cards to play category words with your students. You tell them 3 words for one category, and they try to come up with a word that would fit with the category. Download the sample to see some examples. I print the cards on cardstock, cut them out, then put them on a ring so I can access them easily. The dowload includes over 100 categories for you to easily chose from. The last page contains blank cards in case you would like to add more of your own.
These are great when you have a few minutes. Kids love them!

What a great activity for those "small moments" that need to be filled. I'm excited to use it with my class!

Just printed and laminated these cards. Can't wait to use them with my second graders this fall. Will use them at the end of the day while waiting for the bus and also in a small center activity. Great!

The class begs me to "read a riddle" every time we have down time or transition time.
Thank you! I use to have the students count etc between transitions but it would get loud and some students would get distracted. These are great because they can think in their head. I love these and can't wait to see if you create more creative thinking items!
I am in my 3rd year of teaching, and I love it! I am currently teaching kindergarten, and previously taught first grade for 2 years. I have published one article and have been chosen to help write curriculum for Language Arts in my district.
