It's a very cute idea for those first few days back. I teach a combined grade 1 - 2 class and find my grade 2's really prefer the smaller, non-interlined pages to write on; they do not like the size of their printing to be the size their younger classmates would use. For Grade 2's, that size of printing would be tricky! Also, please think about using an upper case "I" in your title. Otherwise, a fun back to school task.
Very cute Hippo! I can't wait to use it when school starts in August!

Christie, another motivator for me to start the new school year this fall. I am in a district where we can't print in color. The black and white is super cute too! Thank you!
Love this!! Kids love hippos! I'm passing your site to our first grade teachers! I see your dachshund!! We have two of them. Frederick and Jeffrey. Short haired black and tans! Thanks for providing this as a freebie!

Thank you so much for this adorable file. My youngest daughter loves hippos. We recently traveled to the KC zoo from Iowa just to see hippos. Of course, we should have done our research because we have out that hippos sleep 18 hours a day. This was a little disappointing for my 6yr old but she'll love this activity as well as my school kiddos.
Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing this cute project. I'm adding this to my plans! I'll do some dictation with their writing for those that are not ready! Thanks again!

Hi Christie :)
I just downloaded your free Hip Hip HippoRay Writing activity. I wondered if you draw your own illustrations. I bought some on sale called at a site called Digiscrapkits but I can't find any animals like cute hippos, lions or giraffes. Your hippo is so cute. One other question. I see you have a dachshund. I told you in my other note that we have two of them. I love them dearly but one barks all the time. Do you have that problem? Someone said to put a "shock collar" on him, but I just can't do that. Any ideas? Thanks soooo much! Ruth S.
Hi Ruth!
Thanks so much! I have collected clipart for several years (its an addition! lol) & I have also started creating some of my own graphics. My lil pooch is very quiet but the last dachsund that I had barked at absolutely everything also-aughhh! I'm like you though, just couldn't do the shock collar thing. Just decided that I was lucky to have a dog that wanted to protect me! lol (sorry don't have any better tricks for that!)

I love your sentence scrambler activities found on your blog. I was wondering if they were all compiled into a center activity. I love that they include a sight word and have the student use the sight word in a sentence.
I've taught for the past 12 years in 2nd grade, PreK & now 1st grade. I absolutely LOVE teaching & creating fun activities that spark enthusiasm in my students!
