This is a complete research and writing unit for the instruction of a historical impact paper. These 13 pages of materials contain a 4-page overview of the assignment itself, including explanation of an optional collaboration with a social sciences course, introduction of three possible prompts, requirements for research, lengthy lists of topics for consideration, and a checklist of project deadlines; an in-depth, 5-page sample outline focused on the genocide in Darfur and illustrating logical organization, breadth of sources, and proper MLA style for parenthetical citations; a 2-page peer evaluation form for in-class assessment of student writing and source use on a preliminary draft of the paper; a 1-page handout detailing expectations and guidelines for a brief speech during which each student will present research findings; and a 1-page teacher evaluation form for assessment of the paper’s final draft. This unit can be used in conjunction with a social sciences course, individually, and/or at any level of high school or advanced middle. SEE THE DOWNLOAD FOR A LOOK AT THE SAMPLE OUTLINE. Please check out my other materials for grammar and mechanics, literary units, and writing instruction.
