This (approximately three day) lesson is a great Holocaust introduction. It is quite versatile and can be used in both communication arts classes, social studies/history classes, as well as a variety of other classes. Higher level thinking is required of students and students make connections to their own lives, which helps them build on what they already know in addition to peaking their interest. The lesson uses the book titled Terrible Things: An Allegory of the Holocaust by Eve Bunting, so you will need to check this out from your school or local library (this is an excellent book and should not be hard to find).

Great lesson! I will be using it to get kids thinking about how the Holocaust could have possible happened and what a tragedy it was. Great deep thinking opportunities for students. And what a bonus to have all the work done for me. LOVE IT!

This is AWESOME. I just happened to stumle across it, but am so glad I did. This is a super way to introduce my Holocaust unit. Not only does it provide information and vocabulary, but it a gets students thinking about themes like indifference and passive participation. Nicely done! As a side note, I was unable to open it at first, because I chose "open" instead of save in the download box. So make sure to chose save. Then open it.
