This is awesome. I actually adapted this to an older crowd and did this at home my own kids (3, 7, 10, 13) with a few visiting family members and paired it with a following directions/sequencing type activity on how to make hot chocolate. I gave them parameters such as you can only have max 2- two letter words, max 3- three letter words, at least 4- four letter words and at least 3- 5 letter words (once again playing this with some older kids and adults). Then after a team successfully created let's say their 2- two letter words, they got to journey into the kitchen and complete a set of directions to start making hot chocolate. Then after they successfully created 3- three letter words, they went back into the kitchen and completed step 2 of making hot chocolate (step 1- measure 8 ounces of milk and pour into cup.After they successfully created 3- three letter words they journeyed into the kitchen and step two was scoop 2 tsps of chocolate powder and add to your milk (I am a former science teacher so I wanted to add some science and measuring in there :-). You get the point I am sure. It was a healthy competition all the way!!! I also made it so the team could not add or search for anymore words until the person came back from the kitchen to join the team and help. Well, whichever team finished finding words and completed their tasks properly in the kitchen ended up with tasty hot chocolate to enjoy! It was great fun. The kids and adults are asking to play again.....I'm talking 1st, 4th and 8th grade and adult family members. Thanks for helping me find something to do other than watch TV with family and kids on a weekend! If you are looking for something to do over the holiday break with family.......try it out!
