This is a Native American tale about how Coyote got his name. This is for 5 to 9 students. He features prominantly in a lot of stories of the Navajo and in many other tribes. My students are primarily Navajo and I use tales like this to encourage the learning of their own culture which many of them are losing. I first saw this one online but have heard it from our Navajo teacher since. My name is Melanie Whitesides and I would appreciate any comments you have for me. They help me decide which stories to work on turning into Reader's Theater.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I am now heading into my third year of teaching but my 11th Year of working with schools. I teach a 99% American Indian class. They are 90% ELL and the problem that we face each day is low literacy and low math skills. I've written childrens and young adult books as well as poetry but have not found myself an agent yet to help publish them.
