Writing Activity for use with Harcourt Trophies
***Can be used for a real or imaginary story
All of the following printables will go inside the suitcase.
Day 1-Circle Map
I have the students think of an imaginary vacation, though you can use this for a real vacation as well.
Students complete a circle map of ideas about their vacation. Where would you go? How would you get there? Who would go with you? Where would you stay? What fun things would you do? How long would you go for?
Then in the frame around the circle map, I have students write how they know they would do all of this. Have you been there before? Have you seen a commercial, movie, or TV show about it? Have you read a book about it? Have any of your family or friends been there and told you about it?
Day 2-Rough Draft
Students will write a rough draft using their ideas. They will edit this in a writer's workshop with teacher and peers.
Day 3-Final Draft
Students will write a final draft. They will publish their writing using all of the corrections from the rough draft.
Each student will illustrate by drawing 2 pictures of what their vacation would look like. Then they will write a caption next to each picture explaining what the picture is about
