One of the most difficult things about writing essays about literature is getting started. So often, students will just sit and stare at their blank sheets of paper because they do not know how to begin. If given enough practice writing thesis statements, students will be confident about how to begin their essays and will have a head start on organizing the body of their papers. Charlene Tess taught English and creative writing to high school students and adults for over thirty-four years. She was the Secondary Teacher of the Year for Ysleta Independent School District in 1998, and one of the five finalists for Region XIX Teacher of the Year. She is listed in Who's Who in America.
