This laboratory experiment (How many drops of water fit on a penny?) allows students to directly experience the abstract concepts of cohesion and surface tension. Students first share their knowledge with a "Give one, get one" activity. After completing a class experiment, slowly dropping drops of water on a penny, students use this reflective worksheet to evaluate the scientific reasons why such a large number of water droplets are able to fit on a single penny.
