How to Cook a Turkey Class Book
or Individual Student Books
I began doing this writing project my first year of teaching and have done it every single year since. I've used it with Kindergarten through 3rd grade and designed this kit to be differentiated to meet the needs of a variety of developmental levels.
Have each class write a page for a class book.
Have students respond to each question on individual pages and create their own books.
Students dictate their responses to a scribe and then illustrate.
Included in the kit you will find:
a cover for a class book
a cover for indivdidual student books
a top-down web graphic organizer with prompts
a simple top-down web graphic organizer
intermediate-ruled draft paper
primary-ruled draft paper
intermediate-ruled paper for final copies
primary-ruled paper for final copies
2 designs of paper for individual student pages with space for illustrations
cloze activity (great for dictation)
Set up a "stage" that looks like a cooking show. Video your students reading their stories.
Take photos of each student wearing a chef hat to display with their writing.
