This is a little PowerPoint that comes with FREE BOOKMARKS (found in the free preview) that teaches students in grades 5-8 how to effectively highlight information in a textbook (or other book).
Usually students at this age use highlighting in such a way that they are really just "coloring" the page. Teach them how to TRULY highlight.
The preview is a set of free bookmarks that you can use to complement the PowerPoint. Feel free to print them out, copy them and cut them apart so you can distribute them to your students.

I am in my 18th year of teaching. I taught for ten years in the Orange County (Florida) Public School system at primarily the sixth grade level. During that time I taught Language Arts, remedial reading, social studies and exceptional student education (aka special education). Then for 6 years I taught sixth grade Math, Language Arts and Social Studies to sixth graders in a private, independent school.
