This explanatory (how-to) writing unit will make the perfect addition to your classroom this winter! You'll have enough materials to take you through at least 6 days of Writer's Workshop. I've included anchor charts, teacher resource pages, student graphic organizers, work pages AND a bonus craft-ivity!

2nd Grade:
LA.2.ELACC2W2 - [Performance Standard] - Write informative/EXPLANATORY texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.
3rd Grade:
LA.3.ELACC3W2 - [Performance Standard] - Write informative/EXPLANATORY texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
LA.3.ELACC3W2.a - Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful to aiding comprehension.
LA.3.ELACC3W2.b - Develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details.
LA.3.ELACC3W2.c - Use linking words and phrases (e.g., also, another, and, more, but) to connect ideas within categories of information.

LA.4.ELACC4W2.b - Develop the topic with facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples related to the topic.
LA.4.ELACC4W2.c - Link ideas within categories of information using words and phrases (e.g., another, for example, also, because).
LA.4.ELACC4W2.d - Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic.
LA.4.ELACC4W2.e - Provide a concluding statement or section related to the information or explanation presented.
