Based on Suzanne Collins novel "The Hunger Games," this board game activity is fun for all levels of students. It comes with the printable game board, rules of the game & directions for printing, 60 cards, mockingjay tokens, and templates for dice and player pawns.
Each player (or tribute) takes the same path Katniss took around the arena. All of the events and content in the cards stays true to the novel, so it is a great review activity before the test. Or just fun to play anytime!
It can be played by up to 12 players (although it's a little crowded around the "board." You can print more than one copy and have groups of students playing at the same time.).
*I've included an additional five pages of templates (game board template, pawns, cards, tokens) and student guidelines so you can have the students create their own "Hunger Games." It's a fun, challenging, and educational activity!*

My ESL students are totally "in to" this game. The cards provide excellent out loud reading opportunities! We discuss the book as we play, we have even stopped and wrote short stories where the students change the story line! Love it!!!

This is an absolutely DARLING game, but it's pretty complicated to put together (lots of cutting and folding tiny pieces); I laminated all the parts, and it took me several hours to put it all together and cut everything out. However, I think this just speaks to Tracie's overall creativity and the time/energy she puts into her materials - so clever, and she offers all the parts and pieces you could need to make it work. My only other piece of feedback would be that - while the game is so creative and is definitely fun to play - it's not really a great "review" so to speak. The game operates much like Candyland or another board game, and while there are clever cards that tell the student to go forward or back to a certain square, etc...the cards don't force the student to evaluate, asses, or answer questions. Therefore, while it's relevant and certainly relates fabulously to the book itself, I think it could be improved upon with adding a list of questions that would force a student to actually review the content of the book (so, to move forward a space, a student would have to answer a question about a character correctly, etc...). Overall, though, if you're just looking for a relevant and creative game to offer your kiddos, this would definitely do the trick. I will definitely be purchasing more of Tracie's materials :)

Thanks Ash567! I understand what you are saying; the actual game itself offers a simple review of the arena chapters, but not the novel itself. What I believe makes it an excellent review for the novel is the students creating their own games (the directions & template for creating one is included). To me, that is when the real learning takes place - they have to go back and re-read sections and figure out what to include or not include. I didn't add the questions because I've already created the Jeopardy review games and other review handouts, so I wanted to encourage students to create their own. Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback! I appreciate it.

How long does it take to go through one game?

It depends on the players; it can be a quick game if they don't land on any "go back to" spaces. (When I say quick, perhaps 15 min.; it could also take much longer.) Essentially, it's an example for the students. After mine played it, they began working on their own games. Hope that helps!

My students are absolutely loving it! We are only on Chapter 5, and because I made them figure out how many tessaere they would have the day we started the novel, they are dying to play alongside the characters.
Is this board game review activity project included in the full lesson plan and I'm just missing it? Because that would be amazing!

The digital does not include the review board game (it is too large of a file to fit), but it is on the CD. There are a few others that are too large for the digital download (like the intro. powerpoint, which barely fits as a download itself), the badges activity, playlist, and some others that aren't listed.
