Based on the activity in my best-selling Hunger Games Unit, this is a mock class reaping for the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It includes 23 pages of handouts and directions to run a class reaping and tribute training stations and sessions in your classroom or for a book club or library activity.

The roles, which are defined with detailed job duties and worksheets, include: district tribute, tribute mentor, tribute escort, tribute stylist, Gamemaker, and even an Avox (aka gopher).

This is a great class-collaboration activity, which is mostly student led and run. The organization and delegation of duties is done for you--sit back and let the Games begin.

There is a condensed version of it in the digital download, but the full version is on the shipped CD. I could not fit the full version in the digital because of size restraints. I do have some images posted on my school home page & blog (www.hungergameslessons.com). Thanks, Judy!

Do you do this activity before, during or after reading the novel?

I've done it after reading chapter 2 (just the reaping part, not mock training) and after reading Part 1 (or after chapter 9). I don't think they would understand it if it was done before reading, but probably anytime during or after the novel would work. For the mock training, that would work best after chapter 6. This last time I just waited until after chapter 9 to do them both together, which worked pretty well. Good luck & hope that helps!
