The Hunger Games Teaching Unit on CD: This is my best-selling "Hunger Games" teaching unit compiled on a CD that will be shipped to you (rather than a digital download). Aligned with the new Common Core Standards for English/Language Arts, grades 6-12 (chart of activities & standards included).

*I am discontinuing my CD sales. I have approximately 15 CDs left for purchase; when those are sold, I will no longer offer the option to buy the CD unit. You can purchase the digital download plus the CD extras, which I will post as extra bundles.*

Contains all you will ever need to teach Suzanne Collins' wonderful novel (and so much more). Read my rating to see for yourself. It is also available for digital download (see below for the lessons that are NOT included in the digital package due to size limitations). Because I am not limited by space on the CD, I'm able to include more materials in this unit than the digital download, which is why it is a higher price. However, the digital download still has a plethora of teaching materials with the advantage of instant access. Purchase the digital download here:

I just realized, I should have asked you these questions here instead of on a FB page that mentions that your Hunger Games materials are going out of stock. I am interested in looking at these and making a decision but won't be able to fully commit until next week - will it be too late then. Also, I can't seem to download a preview - getting a message of a broken link. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Aggie - I haven't had a chance to check my FB page--sorry about that! If you go to my regular Hunger Games unit for the digital download, found here: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Hunger-Games-Unit-Lessons-QA-Tests-Activities-Quiz-Vocab-Maps-Key-59190 You can download the preview. It has a few pages toward the end that explain what is on the CD that is not included in the digital download.
I have about 15 Hunger Games CDs left, so you should be fine if you choose the CD version. If it is getting close, I can let you know on my FB page if you left a message there. Thanks for your inquiry, Aggie! -Tracee

Hello again,
Thank you for the response. I made the purchase a few minutes earlier. I look forward to the email files. I purchased some materials from you last year and for some reason thought I had the 15.99 package. Today when I realized I had not, I thought I should purchase the whole package if I could get part of it by tomorrow. Thank you for making that possible.

How soon will I receive the CD? Like the other person whose question appears below this box, I need it ASAP. If I download what is available for downloading but I want the other information, can you send that information for the approximate $15.00 difference between the price of the download unit and the price of the CD unit.

Hi Tracee! I ordered your Hunger Games CD, but it has to be shipped by post to Mexico, which is pretty much a nightmare. Is there any way you can send me the material for the first chapters and especially things to do a class reaping? We had already started reading the book before I stumbled upon TpT and saw your wonderful ideas. I would really REALLY appreciate it if there is anything you can email. My mail is lkdeckardramos@hotmail.com. THANKS!!!!!

Tracee-Hello! I'm really loving some of your materials. I have a few questions for you. I'm a middle school social studies teacher (Ancient and Middle ages mostly). Are there any of your Hunger Games products that you think would apply? Also would any of them work with the movies as opposed to the books?

Thanks Tracee!

Hi Erin! Thanks for your interest! I have many lessons that can be adapted, but to be honest, I have probably written more on my blog (www.hungergameslessons.com) that you could use (though much of it is more recent history as opposed to ancient). If you click on the "Classroom Connections" button on the side, it will show the posts with lessons. Click on the "Older Posts" to see more when you get to the bottom of the page.

Two products that would work the best for you:
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Hunger-Games-Novel-Setting-Symbolism-Map-of-Panem-Theme
and
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Hunger-Games-Trilogy-Meaning-of-Panem-Lesson

This is my movie packet:
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/The-Hunger-Games-Book-vs-Movie-Activities

I actually do a lot more connecting with ancient history while we read Mockingjay. There were a lot of similarities to Shakespeare characters & The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.

I hope that helps, Erin. Have a great school year!

Tracee,
Does your unit break it down into number of days or weeks that it typically is recommended to teach the book? Also, are the Common Core standards listed next to each activity rather than lumped together by strand? As I teacher students with learning disabilities, I would probably teach this in the classroom and wondered about how many days/weeks would be typical in order to get as many standards covered as possible in regards to reading, writing, research. We are implementing CCSS this upcoming year and I'm overwhelmed, yet want to teach this book.
Thank you,

Hi Teachermom90 - I do have the standards aligned with each activity since I had to do this in my own curriculum. You can download them here free: Hunger Games Unit Common Core Alignment

As far as a timeline for teaching, I have a suggested order of activities and also provide samples, but because I have taught it five different ways to different groups, I think each teacher will vary depending on their students abilities. The least amount of time I've spent teaching it was 4 weeks; the longest was almost 12 weeks to a group of very low readers. It depends on how many of the standards you wish to cover and how much flexibility you have in your schedule/curriculum. I have plenty of activities to cover many of the standards. I would start with looking at those (though I do have additional/newer products that I have not added to that download, so there are even more to add).

I hope that helps. Good luck! You will love teaching it (and your students will love reading it for class!).

I am willing to purchase your CD, which sounds amazing. However, it seems it will take approx. 12 days before I receive it. I have currently already started the unit with my students and if I have to wait 12 days, we will be too far into the unit. Given that the CD contains the same material (and bonuses), would it be possible to obtain the digital download copy from you in addition to the CD version once payment has been made for the CD? This is so I can start using the materials immediately. If this is not a possibility, then I'll have to resort to the digital version, although my first preference is to purchase the CD. (BTW: your samples look amazing. You've obviously put your heart and soul into this and I am sure the students will benefit and appreciate the work).

On the Common Core Standards Alignment document on the CD, you list the order of activities. For #9 (Chapter 5- Opening Ceremony Drawing), is this an activity that you have on the CD somewhere or are you just saying the "opening ceremony drawing" is what chapter 5 is about? Sorry, it has been a long day for me :) Thanks!

Hi! I purchased the HG cd (which I love by the way) and began the intro ppt and vocab. I'm reading up on the Class Reaping activity in which you began after reading chapters 1 and 2 (according to the Common Core Standard Alignment). When do you suggest (what chapters) would be best to begin the Mock HG Training activity where students will have to create their own (or use your examples) training stations, marketing campaigns, coaching tributes, etc.? Thanks!

We did those little by little beginning with chapter 3: the stylists worked on tokens & then tshirts after the opening ceremonies. The game makers started right away with activities so the mentors could help train the tributes in those areas. Basically they just told the mentors that they would test speed, or camouflage, or agility, without saying exactly what it entailed. The mentors also made signs & helped with the slogans. Since the tributes didn't seem to have as much to do, I made them help their stylists & mentors come up with their personas. We worked on that about twice between chapters 5 & 9. After we finished part 1, we had the official training sessions & the tributes were ranked. Between parts 2 & 3, we didn't have much class time but our school was having a food drive so students could donate food to get sponsor tickets to place bets on a winner. This year we participated in the gifts for needy children, so they could bring items in to donate & get more sponsor tickets. We had our mock games after we completed the book. The winner earned a mockingjay pin. I struggled with rewarding the winner & sponsors because I didn't want the kids to actually like being Capitol citizens...it's hard. Hope that helps. I kind of rambled on. Sorry!

Hi. I am a High School Special Education teacher and plan to teach Hunger Games to my Resource ENG. I, II, III, and IV classes--- we are on Spring Break this week and I plan to start this book as soon as school resumes next week. Anyhoo... I am spending my Spring Break planning lessons and am VERY interested in buying some of your Hunger Games materials. The question is which one??? Does $25 CD include EVERYTHING that you have available for sale in the digital downloads? Do you have any activities or graphic organizers on your CD or any of the Digital downloads that you particularly recommend for SpEd? If I order the CD, how soon will you drop it in the mail and will it be Priority, Parcel Post, or Media mail? And if I do order it and can't get it before next week--- can you email me any beginning activities or graphic organizers from the CD just to get me through next week until the CD arrives in the mail? THANKS! Melissa MOrris in Pasadena, TX

Hi Melissa - Yes, the CD includes EVERYTHINg except a couple of the free downloads (I needed the space on the CD, so since those will always be free, I left those off). It DOES include graphic organizers that I used with my students (both the regular and general/IEP students). I do not have those organizers listed on the site, so that's an added bonus on the CD. I ship first class & can ship today if it is ordered in the next hour. In Texas, you should receive by Wednesday or Thursday, but I can email you files if you need them sooner. Thanks, Melissa! -Tracee

I wrote you a few weeks ago and then decided to buy your Unit. It looks AMAZING and I can't wait to start. I have a question about it though, and I appologize if the answer is in your handout. Did you attach a calendar or something to show the time frame of everything? You have so much information and didn't know if you maybe added a map or something to show you what to start with and what comes next.
Thanks!

I don't have a calendar because I've actually taught it with different time frames for the different grades/levels of students I've taught it with. However, there is an order of lessons in the "TeacherKey" folder (digital unit). It lists the order of lessons (when to use with each chapter). I think each teacher's time frame will vary. My first year I taught it to my remedial freshmen and it took us over 9 weeks; I've also taught it to higher groups, taking about 5 weeks. Good luck!

Hi Tracee,
I teach at a school for students with significant disabilities. Most are emotionally disturbed with severe learning problems. I have tried a few books but nothing has really caught them. After falling in love with this book myself, I have decided to try it with my kids next. I am interested in buying your unit but have a question. My students are 10th graders (ages 15-18) but are on a Middle School reading level, if not lower. Your unit says "hard good." Do you think your product may be above them? I would love to buy it and I can modify a bit (I don't want to change too much as it looks so beautifully done!) but don't want it to be a waste.
Could you please tell me your thoughts?
Thanks! Happy teaching : )

Hi Julianne!
The "hard good" refers to it being a shipped good rather than a digital download (but I also have a digital download available).

I started teaching the novel because I had the same group - mostly boys and a couple actually had a 2nd/3rd grade reading level. We read it aloud and it took us about 10 weeks to get through it, but they loved it. Actually, we read all three books - we had to wait a year for Mockingjay (torture!), but since I had them both their freshmen & sophomore years it worked out.

You will be able to modify most of the assignments, plus I included a mix of activities that can be differentiated. I really think you are going to love teaching this with them. There were even boys in this class who were telling the "smart" kids they needed to read the book. My regular classes started asking about it, so now I teach it to all of them.

Good luck!

Would you know how long it would take roughly to ship to Delaware? Thank you

I just looked up tracking on a CD I sent to Delaware not long ago and it took 2 days. But I usually estimate 3-4 days to be on the safe side.

As long as I get the order by 3 p.m. CST, I mail it the same day from Illinois. Of course, that's just weekdays. Our p.o. is no longer operating on Saturdays, so all weekend orders are sent on Monday. If you ordered tonight you should get it by Friday or Saturday, weather permitting.

Thanks for your interest!

How long does it currently take to ship the Hunger Games CD to Ontario, Canada?

Carment - It seems to take between 3-4 weeks for some reason. Last year it was between 1-2 weeks, but last spring & summer things changed and I can't guarantee that it can get there sooner. I wish I could, but it seems that Customs holds the packages longer, even though I mark them as gifts. Thanks for your interest.

At what point in the novel would you have students complete the commercial advertisement activity?

You could do it after Parts 1 or 2, or at the end of the novel. I wouldn't do it before chapter 8, just because they may not realize how important a "persona" is for a tribute. I incorporate it into our Class Games activity and have the stylists/escorts/mentors/tributes responsible for putting together a good advertising campaign for their tribute/district. We begin work on that after Part 1, but do not complete everything until they are done with the novel. I would say whatever fits with your schedule after Part 1 would work.

I downloaded the packet for The Hunger Games, but can't find the Jeaoprady review, wasn't it in there when I looked at the packet online? I love the packet and am using it, but I really thought the Jeopardy review came with it?

Thanks, Sasha

I think there is plenty to use from the novel in your govt. class, but I am not sure how helpful my unit would be, since my main focus is ELA. I do align with some of the common core standards that may affect your class. My husband teaches 12th grade political science/government. I'm going to ask him to look over some of it & see what he thinks. You can email me at hungergameslessons@gmail.com and I will get back to you. Thanks for your interest!

I am still reviewing the CD! It is wonderful! Are there files for the Plot and Conflicts in The Hunger Games ? Or, do need to purchase them individually?

I don't have separate files for those. We mostly covered through discussion questions & check questions & class discussions. Sorry! I am glad you are enjoying the CD. Let me know if you have additional questions. hungergameslessons@gmail.com

Hi Tracee
I'm I teacher in Lethbridge Alberta, Canada. I'm about to teach grade 9 English Language arts and I love the look of your hunger games unit (the CD version) I tried to order it but I guess it's only for sale (shipping?) in the US. I was wondering if there's a way I can arrange for you to ship me a copy or should I settle for the downloadable version?
Here's hoping!
Kind regards
Jason Roberts

Hi Jason! Yes, the site only supports shipping to the US. But we can go through PayPal directly & I can still ship it to you, if you would like. Just email me at orman3@mchsi.com and I will send an invoice. Thanks for your interest! -Tracee

Hi Shell2662--Unfortunately I have no control over individual pricing, but if it makes you feel better, the CD has over 400 files as opposed to about 40 on the digital.

Hi, I'm in Canada, and would like to purchase your HG CD unit, but when I try to checkout I'm told shipping is only for US customers. Are you willing to ship to Canada anyway?

I will ship to Canada. Just email me & we can go through PayPal because the site does not offer international shipping. My email is: orman3@mchsi.com. I will warn that lately delivery has been taking up to 4 weeks! :( It used to be about 2 weeks, so I'm not sure why it has slowed so much.

I usually mail it the day I receive the order if it's before 3 p.m. Central time, so to Texas is probably no more than 3-4 days tops. I live right by the MidWest distribution center for the postal service, so they get it processed & sent that same day. One sent out today should reach you by Tuesday at the latest under normal circumstances.

What is included in the CD that isn't in the digital download? I'm trying to decide which to purchase. Do you sell the items not included in the dd separately?

Thank you for your help.

You can purchase the slideshows (which are in Powerpoint, Keynote, PDF, and Quicktime .mov formats) separately as a shipped item; just one of the files is 60 MB, far too large for the digital download. The CD contains all of these, plus the arena board game activity, mockingjay stationery, badges activity, and the Word Art files (which are all sold separately) and additional vocabulary handouts, images of maps of Panem (at least 10 different maps), character depictions, and numerous activities and handouts others have shared (which are NOT sold separately and can only be found on the CD). The files for the tests, quizzes, graphic organizers, and vocab are also offered in Microsoft Word and Mac's iWork Pages formats, along with PDF format. The digital download is not large enough to include the other formats, so besides the tests and quizzes, they are all PDFs. If you download the "free preview" on the digital download page, it lists the additional files on the CD. Thanks so much!

The digital download is here: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Hunger-Games-Unit-Lessons-QA-Tests-Activities-Quiz-Vocab-Maps-Key
It includes the essentials (tests, quizzes, vocab., character info., teacher's guide). The additional files on the CD are too large to be purchased digitally. Thanks for your interest!

I would send it from Illinois tomorrow morning & you should get it by Wednesday or Thursday. I live pretty close to the midwest distribution center, so most mail can reach the surrounding states in 1 day. I'd say 2 days for Ohio. Hope that helps!
