Hi gillsim - I'm sorry you are disappointed, but you do not have to purchase anything to unzip the packet--TpT put the link to the FREE download for PC users in the "My Purchases" section. The directions for downloading and unzipping are right there. TpT does not (and has never, nor will) make anyone purchase something to unzip. Also, we have tech support where you can submit a ticket if you have problems and they do get back to you pretty quickly. I think if you had first contacted me via Q&A or submitted a ticket, you would see how helpful people are here and avoided your disappointment. I hope you reconsider your feedback.

I love it. I am reading Hunger Games with my 6th graders right now. I teach two classes of Language Arts. The other 6th grade classes have already read it. I love the plethora of materials I have at my fingertips. I am using what I feel my 6th graders can handle. They are enjoying it. We will even do a Hunger Games outdoor activity with all the 6th grade. Thanks for such awesome material.

Tracee came through when I needed to make the worksheets accessible to a student who does all writing via technology. She was able to allow us to continue to use Adobe Reader (the student will delete information from assignments if the file isn't locked; PDFs work best to avoid this issue!) and the iPad. TOTAL SUCCESS!

Hi Lindsay - I'm sorry you are having problems opening it. Is this after you've extracted the files in the zipped folder? Have you tried opening the Microsoft Word files? I suggest redownloading and when you try to open the individual files within the folders, make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader (the link is in your "my purchases" to download free). Hi Karen - I've been teaching it for four years, so I add to it each time. You won't use everything, but can switch things up or differentiate each time you teach. In the Teacher's folder you will find an "Order of Lessons" (HGorderoflessons) document that should be helpful. Start with that and the student Survival Guide (HGsurvivalpack) in the "Activities" folder. The survival guide has many of the other files incorporated into it. Hi skitles - I can't tell if you are asking to use the same images I included in my unit. If so, they are not for commercial distribution. (Please read the terms!) But if you are asking how to get permission to use images in general, here is how I did it (this took well over 3 years and I am still securing permissions for others--I had to wait a year to post one of my products to get all permissions, so this isn't something that happens overnight): I asked the rights-holders (whether it was the photographer, artist, production company, webmaster, etc.). Often the person who holds the rights is not necessarily the person who created it. Many of the images I have the exclusive rights to use. In some of the cases I have agreements where I promote for them in return. Some of the promos include publish their press releases, write articles, and post links on my website back to them. You will want to have a website that generates a lot of traffic, otherwise they may not even consider it. (Probably 20,000-30,000 hits per month is minimum.) You can also just buy the commercial license in some cases. It depends on how much you want to spend.

Hi kjsheeran - I'm sorry you are having difficulties. Perhaps the zipped file did not completely download? It does that sometimes, so you can always re-download. You will have a zipped folder as the download. If you have a PC, you will need to extract the contents using WinZip or other software; on a Mac, just double-click and it will save the folder in your Documents or another location. Inside the folder are subfolders organized by the type of resource. There are Word and PDF documents. Chances are you are just opening an additional folder that some PCs create when they download a zipped bundle. Since I am not familiar with PCs, the tech dept. will be able to help you further. Hi Kate - thanks for your inquiry! The biggest difference is that the CD contains the introduction & visual aid powerpoint and handouts for that, the gameboard activity, examples of our class reaping, and the full character analysis aligned with the CCSS, as well as extra assessments. There are 223 items on the CD and 48 on the digital download. However, if you do not need the extras, the digital unit has plenty (more than enough) to teach the unit. :) -Tracee

Hi Tara,
The first three times I taught it was to smaller classes and we read aloud. They did have books. The last few times I was able to purchase enough books through Amazon and Scholastic that students could read independently, but we still read a lot of the novel aloud. If you are looking for inexpensive books, Amazon will often offer them for their 4-for-3 deals and you can order them through Scholastic Book Clubs, which would earn bonus points to get additional books free. The first three times I taught it was to smaller classes and we read aloud. They did have books. The last few times I was able to purchase enough books through Amazon and Scholastic that students could read independently, but we still read a lot of the novel aloud. If you are looking for inexpensive books, Amazon will often offer them for their 4-for-3 deals and you can order them through Scholastic Book Clubs, which would earn bonus points to get additional books free. Hi msosinski! Thanks for your interest; it's such a great book to teach. The digital download does not contain everything I have, however the CD is pretty darn close. You will see a list of lessons on both the digital and the CD version listing everything that comes with each. Just click on the "Product Description" tab to see all the links. To see the CD version, there is also a link from the digital description. (The main thing that is not included in the digital download is the introduction & visual guide Powerpoint. Due to size limitations, it had to be listed separately. It IS on the CD.)

Gwenythgng - Sorry you are having problems. If you have a Mac, just double-click on it and it will automatically extract the contents and create a new folder in your Downloads. PC users need special software to unzip. If you are a PC user, you can download the free program found here: <A HREF="http://winzipfreedownload.org/">WinZip Free Download for PC Users</A>. It should open any zipped file from PCs. I hope that helps you! You can always try re-downloading in case something happened to the file during download.

Yes -the check quizzes have all the chapter quizzes. You will find short quizzes for chapters 1-27. The longer tests are Parts 1, 2 and the final over the entire novel. Chapter 1 is a longer test than the check quizzes because of all the information they have right away.

They are in the file called "check quizzes". They are not as long as the first one because there isn't the same amount of material to cover in each chapter. The chapter 1 quiz might be better given after chapter 2 or even 3. (I usually waited.) The reason i had a bigger one was because I didn't want to wait until the end of part 1 to make sure they understood the background. Once they do, then I just gave them little check quizzes to make sure they were reading or paying attention.

I'm sorry for bugging you but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the cd vs digital download comparison aspect. What do I need to purchase for digital downloads in order to have it all? "Hunger Games" Unit: Lessons Q&A Tests Activities Quiz Vocab Maps Key, Catching Fire Complete Unit: Questions, Activities, Tests, Vocab & Mockingjay Chapters 1-27 Questions, Handouts, Teacher's Guide? Anything else? I see when I look through the list that some say they are included in the digital download but some do not make reference at all to whether or not they are part of the download, CD or that you must purchase separately, hence my confusion. Are you able to open the Word files that are included? Perhaps it did not download all the way. It may take up to 10 minutes to download. Also, if you have a Mac, you'll want to use Acrobat Reader rather than Preview to open them. But I did include Word files. I would try downloading it again. If you purchased it today, chances are there was a glitch while downloading as it was a very heavy day for traffic.

When I tried to re-open the original download, I couldn't find the file so I had to download again. I wanted to save it to my flash drive so that I could take it to school. I'm not sure what you mean by temporary files? You should be able to just save the zipped folder (or the contents that were extracted when you unzipped) right onto your flash drive. Or you can download it again at school from that computer. All the files are permanent. Try downloading it again. It is a very large file, so it will take awhile. Make sure you have a program to unzip. Also, if you use a Mac, make sure you have updated your software (Here's the note on the product description: Mac Users: You may need to download this application to open any zipped files. TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching at my current public high school for twelve years, and have a total of 16 years experience. Most of my experience is teaching high school English and journalism classes; however, for several years I taught an art history class.
