Several years ago I began making my own beaded bookmarks because I couldn't find any that were inspired by my favorite books. (I thought it was ironic that the beaded bookmarks in the store would feature charms with pets, hearts, or even food, but no books!)
I make the charms myself (because, again, I couldn't find any literature-themed charms anywhere) and use a glass-like glaze to seal them.
This particular bookmark is inspired by the novels "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire" by Suzanne Collins. The large 1.5 inch charm has the Hunger Games mockingjay on one side and the Catching Fire mockingjay on the other. The other end of the bookmark features three separate dangles: a pearl (symbolic in "Catching Fire"), a tree I made using Delica seed beads and wood beads (symbolic in "The Hunger Games"), and a smaller charm with characters Katniss on one side and Peeta on the other.
The two ends are connected by high-quality waxed linen cord. It measures 10" between the beads (this part will fit into the "crack" of the book--hence the nickname "book thong"--and will hold your place even when your 11-year-old son chucks it to you from across the room after you asked him to bring you your book). The overall length of the bookmark is just over 13".
This would make a unique gift for any lover of The Hunger Games trilogy, or buy it for yourself as a reward for all the hard work & long hours you put in day after day!
