This poetry study asks students to read (or listen to) "Hurt" by Johnny Cash, identify poetic devices, and then identify the speaker, audience, and purpose of the poem.
I got a kick out of this because a lot of my freshmen students had never heard this song before (whaaa...?!). They really loved bringing the element of music into the classroom, though.
