In this packet students create a healthy kid shape book. Directions are given for construction of the book through both words and illustrations. An original, full color book is included that can be used as an introduction to the unit or as needed as the unit progresses. Students create the illustrations for the following pages:
1. heart
2. lungs
3. digestive system
4. brain
5. skeleton
6. healthy eating
7. exercise
8. sleep
9. teeth
10. hand washing
Simple ideas for demonstration of how our hearts, lungs, and digestive system work are given as well as how important hand washing is to our health.
Both a Level 1 reading and a Level 2 writing option is given for creation of the book. An introduction to ChooseMyPlate.gov and food families is included as well as how essential it is to add exercise to our lives.

I have been teaching a healthy child unit for a couple of years that I inherited. I finally decided it was time to do something on my own that I truly enjoyed. I have taken your unit, made a few changes to suit my needs & now have a unit that I am proud to teach. I love the student-made booklet & can't wait to see how they turn out. I did move the "tissue" pg. to the front so the booklet could be opened easier. Thanks for your hard work.
After reading your message, I have to laugh because I may be retiring next year after 38 years in the classroom. I don't know why I do this to myself & create more work. It's the life of a teacher!
