These were made to be used at centers or for whole group work. I initially made them to use with our short phonics books. The books focus on certain digraphs, combinations, blends, suffixes, etc so we go on a word hunt to find some of the words displaying the new concept. We then go on to do some sort of on the back activity: abc order, syllable sort, writing sentences or rhyming words~all essential first grade skills. I made 2 copies of three of the activities-the only difference is in the directions- 1 says "read the room" and 1 says" read your book". I put these in my word station with phonics books or other short books, but I also put them in the station for the kids to walk around the room with a clipboard and find words.

I have been teaching since 2000. I started out in 4th grade for two years then went on to teach 3rd grade for 6 years. I have been teaching 1st grade ever since and have loved every bit of it. I believe all elementary teachers need to experience 1st grade for at least a year....there is so much learning and growing going on...it is amazing!
