This is a highly motiviating writing unit that I hope I can "persuade" you to buy! Everything you need to teach an effective persuasive writing unit is included with this pack. I have done all the work for you so your planning is made easier without compromising quality! I use the book "I Wanna Iguana" by Karen Kaufman Orloff as a springboard for this unit (this is not a novel study on this book). This book is one of my absolute favourites! The illustrations are fabulous! Students will read information cards and then write 8 different letters on 8 different animals. They will use their most persuasive writing techniques to convince you that they are deserving of a pet. They will write persuasive letters for an iguana, a jaguar, a snake, a sloth, a rabbit, a hamster, an orangutan, and a parrot. After reading all their letters you will present each student with a certificate telling them which animal they best persuaded you to get them. The anticipation will have them giddy!!
I have included:
*colourful anchor charts and success criteria (in poster form and smaller to photocopy)
*a student booklet with 8 different letter writing pages
*colouring pictures to go with each letter
*colourful animal posters
*animal information cards written on a computer screen graphic
*an end of the unit certificate.
My class loved this unit and they looked forward to writing a new letter each day! You should have heard their excitement on the final day when they opened their certificate from me and found which pet they had earned! They were beside themselves!!

Natalie,
I bought this packet just before the break and it is awesome. I am unable to access the file and need of couple of pages that did not print the first time. For the past three days I have tried to open the file and it will not allow me to download. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi there,
When you say you can't access the file do you mean off your personal computer? Or TpT? I would suggest going to "My Purchases" and download the unit again. If you are having trouble accessing the file on TpT then get in touch with them immediately - the link is at the bottom of the home page. I can send you the pages you need if you can't wait. Email me at home (my contact info is on the last page of the unit) and I will send them to you. I know that the file is okay so I think it must be a computer issue - yikes they can be sooooo frustrating!!!

Natalie I just bought your I Wanna Iguana pack and I love it. Is it possible to reformat it so that it requires 3 reasons rather than 2?
Hello! I am glad to hear that you are pleased with the unit and I will gladly modify and resend you anything you would like to have changed. I have no way of contacting you so please email me at home: lamontfamily@bell.net and let me know what you would like altered and then I can send it to you directly.
I look forward to hearing from you:)

Hi Terri!
I used the success criteria as my rubric. I would quickly assess the letter by the criteria and then give the letter a level overall. Hope that helps! I just noticed that I missed a word on the iguana computer fact page. I've downloaded the correct version so if you download it again you can reprint that page. Sorry! I read it 20 times and still missed it! Oops!!
