Math is best learned in real life situations. This projects puts students into the real life situation of going out to a restaurant and having to split the tab. The project focuses on multiplication, division and estimation. Updated to add grading rubric.

I currently teach first grade at an American School in Casablanca, Morocco. Previously, I taught all grade levels in the computer lab at a Title I school in Georgia. I have also taught 3rd grade for 4 years. I student-taught in 3rd grade and Kindergartden. I have taught both high income and low-income school students, and find that no matter where I teach, most kids need to look at every problem from 12 different angles. Although it is challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding.
