Put these 80 character and setting cards in your Writing Center and your young writers will always have a place to go for story ideas! By choosing one card from each container, writers will have the beginnings of a funny or unusual situation, which they can then develop into a longer piece of writing. This resource consists of 40 captioned Character Cards, 40 captioned Setting Cards, and 2 storage container labels.

Thank you for your interest in this set! Please see more of my materials for primary literacy and math at my blog at

I was under the impression when I bought the writing ideas that I would get all the cards for characters, places, etc. What didn't I understand?

Hmmm... not sure what you mean. I haven't had any problems with this download before. You should have gotten a document with 72 character and setting cards. If you did not, please email me at lnelson1118@gmail.com, and I'll send you the correct one ASAP!

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Subject Area:

I've been teaching for 26 years, with the majority of my experience being in first grade. I taught Reading Recovery for 5 years, and that experience has impacted every day of my teaching since! For the past 10 years, I've enjoyed teaching a first grade literacy intervention class. It has also been my privilege to present various workshops on literacy topics at the local, state, and national level. My goal is to ignite a passion for reading and writing in young learners.
