Children need automaticity in saying their letters/sounds. Kathy Griffin creates a fun phonics song and media file to help children rapidly name the sounds associated with the alphabet. There are 2 teaching point pages at the end of the file. Pause the file while on your interactive whiteboard or Smart Board and call on your students to circle the letter that matches the sound that you say. Or have the students use a pointer to track the letters and say their sounds. The letters are color coded to help build memory matching to help younger students or struggling readers.
This is a .mov file that can be opened with Quick Time on your computer. You no longer have to worry about syncing a power point with the song and setting the timing. It is ready to use on your students' computers or interactive whiteboard. You can use it with your Smart Board and pause during the slides to highlight words, letters, or strategies.

Do you have Skype ability in your classroom? I am thinking about "Skyping" with some of the teachers and classrooms that purchase my songs. Sort of a way to talk about writing for a purpose, how I get my ideas, and how they can make up songs to help them learn too. I do mini-lessons like this with my class and they become great songwriters to help them remember sight words and other information. Thanks for purchasing another one of my products and for leaving feedback. My email is kathytps@aol.com if you are interested in doing something like that or have a different idea. Oh - and my class also writes opinion pieces on what is their favorite song of mine and why. They usually like the tune or the words, but I love when I read the ones that say it helped me . . . Also, we make song graph to record our information. First grade teachers have to multitask well and fit in every teachable moment that we have.

Fantastic! They will be singing all of their sounds in no time. You can make a fluency center with this song by writing the abc's on a sentence strip. Put dots under the places where there are normal breaths in the song. Give the students a fluency phone or pvc pipe phone. Have them touch the ABC's and sing the song making sure they stop on the correct letter.
For example: a b c d e f (put dot under f) g h i j k l (put dot under l) m n o p q r s t u v w x y z (put a dot under z).

Congratulations on getting a Smart Board for next year! You will love it. Yes you can put all of these on your student computers. I create a folder on the desktop and then my students can operate it independently. They click on the folder and choose which one they want to watch and sing. After listening to a guest speaker today and sitting for about 30 minutes, one of my students raised her hand and asked, "Can we do some movement?" LOL!!! And then she chose this song. Then later my class sang it with a couple of teachers, and the teachers had a hard time keeping up with the letter sounds, especially when they are out of order at the end. It got to be quite competitive between the teachers and my students:) Glad it is bringing fun to your classroom. Everyone needs FUN and sanity at this time of year! This powerpoint is really challenging my students while they are learning their letter sounds! I have caught many of my students singing the alphabet letter sounds instead of the traditional alphabet song. It is a must have for kindergarten and 1st grade teachers!!

That's fantastic Christie! Thanks for giving feedback! Want to create an easy literacy center? Write the ABC's on a sentence strip in ABC order. You can make 3 different versions: One with all capital letters, one with all lower case letters, and one with both capital and lowercase letters together. Also make one with them in in random order. Laminate them and put in a tub with a PVC pipe reading phone and let them sing away. Also, cut a ABC chart apart and place the cards in a tub. Have them sing the song and put them the cards back in ABC order on the floor or on a table. Have fun and thanks for visiting my store:)
