In this book are some great activities & songs for teaching shapes to preschoolers, all of which can make learning fun. Preschoolers naturally want to sort things by colour, shape, and size.
When you are watching your child play, you will see this tendency in action, as they try and make sense of the world around them. Instinctively they sort their toys by colour and their blocks by size.
Watch a child with a handful of crayons
and they will often separate the crayons into the different colours that they see.
This instinctive need to sort things can be used to full advantage to make learning early maths & other skills exciting for
preschoolers. Learning to distinguish between things is a major accomplishment for your little preschooler. Whenever possible, let your child help you sort things around the house. Instead of just putting things away try asking your child to pick up all the squares or all the triangles first. This can also be done with cardboard boxes from around the house; kitchen towel cylinder tubes, cereal boxes, or even make your own boxes or cubes!! Additionally there are a number of
“shape sorter” toys available that aid in teaching a preschooler about shape and colour.
There are some fantastic learning games for preschoolers to help them learn about shapes, there are also plenty of free activities that you can do at home. Simple craft play will help your preschooler learn shapes easily and naturally.

No formal Teacher Training, I work in social media, am a webmaster with a number of websites and blogs, and have a background and extensive experience in criminal and civil law, which I have recently returned to after a 5 year absence. I am a homeschooling mom who opted for homeschooling as a result of circumstances in our country. I have not looked back. I have attended many online courses to assist me in my educational journey. My materials are utilized through countries of Africa as an alternative to formal educational publications which are prohibitively expensive! I am fond of compiling unit studies and thematic units which I am able to adapt and use for each of the three children, now 6, 11 and 13 respectively. I make extensive use of public domain resources and include references to reputable websites for extension exercises and lesson plans. I am a published author.
