This download is a PDF slide show that accompanies Jack Hartmann's popular song "I'm a Word Detective." This show, when combined with his song, will help you reach your visual and auditory learners as they develop multiple strategies for figuring out new words when reading.
To use, connect your computer to your projector so all the children can see the show and play the song simultaneously. Because it's the PDF version of a Power Point document, all you need to do is press the down arrow key on your keyboard to advance the slides.
As your children become familiar with the song, you can take the opportunity to discuss each slide in more detail to support your strategy talk. The slides could even be printed and used as visual supports during small group instruction.
