I plan to use this on the first day of school, with a couple of changes.
Please add to the list of famous politicians: Sonia Sotomayor (Puerto Rican parents) as the first Hispanic judge on the Supreme Court. How can you state that "there are 34 million American citizens who speak Spanish as their first language" AND that "there are 47 million Hispanics/Latinos in the US"? Which is it?

Regarding the stats you mentioned about Hispanics versus Spanish speakers - There are 34 million Americans who speak Spanish as their FIRST language. There are approximately 47 million Hispanics/Latinos who live in the U.S. Hispanics do not all speak Spanish, and some speak limited Spanish, others speak it as a second language, as they may only hear it when around certain groups of friends or relatives.

We have also directed Spanish Camp for elementary students for many years. We are published authors and Spanish text editors and evaluators. We are also both Nationally Board Certified Teachers (WLOE).
