Are you looking for a book project that offers a little more variety and does not ask students to retell the story they have just read? If so, this might appeal to you and your students. This document includes directions for a 4 part book project. Part 1 is "A Box of Goodies". Part 2 is "Coming to Life". Part 3 is "Walk in Their Shoes". Part 4 is "Spread the News". These four activities encourage students to think more critically about the book they have read and to appreciate the author's style and descriptions. Part 3 helps students to think about the experiences of the characters and decide how they would have reacted given the same situation.
A parent letter is also included to send home the week prior to the due date.
You may also want to check out an additional independent book project called Lights, Camera, Action!
I LOVE this idea!! I tried it out with my students and they did very well! I tweaked a few things to make it "my own" but mostly I used the ideas presented. Great ideas!
