Guide your students to a deeper level of appreciation and understanding of the short story genre through independent reading. Students will read and react to short stories. They will assemble these reactions into a creative short story response journal. For each story, they will write the source information, write a one paragraph reaction, include academic vocabulary, and utilize a visual aid.
Included is a detailed standards-based lesson plan, detailed instructions and requirements for the students, a reading log and permission form.
The students will practice and master the following skills:
-- Identify, analyze, and use short story terms
-- Recognize and understand the significance of various literary devices
-- Write responses to literature
The design of the activity is easily adaptable for English language learners (ELD, ESL, EFL, SDAIE).
Also available in MSWord format.
