In my English classes I pass this handout to my students, and they use it as a guide for their own independent writing. Basically, I allow my students 8 minutes at the beginning of class to write. They can write whatever they want, and this worksheet gives them options, a checklist to make sure they try new things, and a rubric to know how they are being assessed.
