Keeping up with my students' reading fluency is an easy task when I use this simple, informal assessment tool. Rather than having a standard text that all students read, I can choose any book at an appropriate level, whether it's a cold read or rehearsed. I track my students miscues and errors and compute their overall accuracy. This takes about two minutes total for each student (1 to read and 1 to score), so I can knock them out quickly. I can even do it weekly, if need be. This sheet has space for 3 students' data and can easily be modified to suit your needs.

I have been teaching for 17 years at the same school in Mandeville, Louisiana. I taught 1st grade for six years and have taught 2nd grade for eleven years.
