This lesson contains an article about the Jesse Owens four gold medal performance at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and the struggle and controversy that surrounded the games. The lesson comes with a writing prompt, a graphic organizer and questions to help initiate a discussion. Works very well as non-fiction compliment to a unit on the Holocaust or World War II.
This lesson was great! I paired it with a reading about Margaret Lambert (A Jewish competitor banned from the German team). The two articles helped the students understand the discrimination that occurred at the time. Thanks. Great questions.
