Seller's Description
This unit introduces students to three unique peoples of Africa: the Gabbra people of the Chalbi Desert in Kenya, the Masai people of the savannahs of Kenya and Tanzania, and the Mbuti people from the rain forest of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Students will learn how geography and ecosystems both support and influence the lifestyle and culture of people who inhabit three vastly different types of environments. Although this unit was originally designed for fourth grade students, it can be adapted for students in grades three through twelve. This unit addresses Illinois and national learning standards in English Language Arts, Science, Social Science and Fine Arts. As a culminating activity, my students participated in hands-on activities and a tour at the Brookfield Zoo. Chicago-based teacher Michelle McFarland-McDaniels created this unit.
