PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Are you using interactive math journals or interactive notebooks in your classroom? You really should be! This 165-page resource contains everything you need to start interactive math journals or interactive math notebooks in your classroom. This resource contains 38 different math journal activities - with each one containing an interactive hands-on aspect for the student. Each journal activity contains organization ideas, left-side and right-side of the page ideas, pictures, detailed instructions, and student templates to build the interactive tools. Assessment ideas, checklists, and reflection pieces are also included.

All major math concepts are covered - numeration, fractions, measurement, algebra, geometry, statistics, geometry, etc.

This resource is best suited to grades 4 - 8, and is aligned with the Common Core Standards and Ontario Curriculum Strands.

Please download the preview to see what is included in this resource. The preview also contains two full journal activities so you can see the format of the activities.

My Math Reflection Fans make a great companion resource for this interactive math notebook.

This resource is included in my Math Journal Bundle - The Ultimate Math Journal Bundle for Upper Elementary Math.

These journal activities have been based on my popular "Math Journal Sundays" posts on my blog: Runde's Room

Page 82 "The Metric Staircase" does not have the correct description/explanation of the foldable/interactive tool. Instead it describes the different types of graphs from p. 75. Could I get the corrected page? Otherwise, I can't wait to implement this resource with my students!
Thanks,
Susan

Hi I just bought the interactive Maths journals and a few other things...do you happen to do these in UK spelling as I'm from Australia?

On  October 16, 2013,  Buyer asked:
After spending a lot of time looking on this site, I finally purchased the Interactive Math Journal from Runde's Room and it was flagged as a harmful document that was dangerous to open and I therefore cannot print it or use it. I posted a rating/response on the page of the seller asking to be notified when she emailed a response back to me; and not only did she not respond, but she removed my rating within a couple hours of placing it!!!!! I was reading reviews daily and prior to purchasing and there was literally dozens per day. I have since noticed that the last posted rating was Oct 6th, two days after I made my purchase. Obviously something is going on and there are problems. I thought this was a safe forum to make a purchase and am so disappointed as I had four or five other things I wanted to purchase based on how it went with my first experience. I got an "i told you so from my husband" and was really bothered by the fact that she removed my complaint and didnt respond at all. She has made literally thousands and thousands of dollars off of this math journal and I paid my $14.99 only to get a virus on my computer and a useless resource.

On  October 16, 2013Runde's Room answered:
I am sorry you are having difficulties, but you first need to know that this is the first correspondence I have had with you. Sellers have no way of removing ratings on products, and I have never done so. If you scroll down in the ratings, you will see that there are, in fact, ratings from every single day (including three from just today). When somebody clicks a ratings as helpful, it goes to the top of the list. Follow the list down and you will see all the others. I assure you this is a very safe place for purchasing and downloading resources. If you are having difficulties, on your "my purchases" page where you download materials, there is a "downloading difficulties" button you can click - from there you can choose to have the file emailed to you or contact TPT tech support to help you through the process. This file does not contain a virus, and I haven't had others with a problem similar to yours, so I am thinking it was just a glitch during the downloading process. If I did miss your rating earlier, I apologize - I do receive a lot of feedback, and sometimes they may get past me. I do however, check all Q&A as soon as I get one. I am a little disappointed you would jump to the conclusion that "there is something going on" without trying to contact me through the Q&A first - but, ultimately I would like you to be very satisfied with your purchase, so please let me know if there is any other way I can help you after you contact tech support to help you get the download you purchased.

I can't get my download to print. Everything else I have purchased from TPT prints with no problem. Do you have any ideas?

On  September 29, 2013Runde's Room answered:
I'm sorry you're having difficulties. One of my friends wrote a helpful blog post that may give you some ideas: http://www.2ndgradestuff.blogspot.ca/2013/04/help-i-cant-save-or-print-my-tpt-file.html

If you still can't get it to print after that, you can contact TPT tech support by clicking on the "downloading difficulties" button on your purchases page. They will be able to help you troubleshoot the problem. Please let me know if you have any other difficulties.

Hi,

I just bought your product. Its great--but I am confused with the common core strands? Is this for the American Curriculum only? Do you list anywhere the connecting curriculum expectations for each lesson for Ontario?

Thanks!

Hi!
I teach grade 5/6 in Ontario, and created this resource for my class. I did include a chart which shows the strands each journal entry matches - I just didn't write out the full expectations for each journal entry.

You will have to contact TPT through the "contact us" button at the bottom of the page if you are looking for a refund. I cannot give refunds. I'm sorry you feel you cannot adapt this for your grade level - I've used it with grade 4 - 7 (and know of many grade 3 teachers who have adapted it) with great success. All of the interactive tools are blank - to let the teacher guide the information that is included on the foldable.

Yes, you should be able to use lessons from this resource right away. The pictures I have included for every lesson are from both my journal (which is the same as the students') and the students' journals. If you download and read through the free preview download, I have included a lot of information about how you use the journals, and examples of 2 of the lessons / journal entries for the students.

What's your opinion on this for special needs kiddos?
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  August 19, 2013Runde's Room answered:
I have an inclusive classroom with many special needs students each year. They LOVE the hands-on nature of this. Their cutting and pasting may not be quite as neat as some of the others in the class, but they enjoy doing the journal activities. I do lessen the amount of writing they need to do (such as only one writing goal) and I usually give them a proof problem and direction for the reflection. Thank-you for your interest!

Hi This will truly change my math lessons this year! My question is- you said you would only do one or two a week? What did you do once or twice- the interactive component to the math journal? I'm a little confused- can you sort of map out your math week? Did you do the interactive portion on Monday and then do something else the other days? If so, what? Thanks so much! :)
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  August 19, 2013Runde's Room answered:
I usually only spent one math block per week on a math journal entry. It just worked out that way through my units. I didn't have a set day I did the journals on. Most of the time they were used as an introduction to the concept, but with some of the more difficult concepts for my students (or longer concepts like fractions) I did it part way through our study of the concept. I supplement my math program with lots of problem-solving activities, centre work, independent practice, etc. Thank-you so much for your interest!

No - the journal has an entry for place value up to 100 000. You can add more pockets to take up to billions, or you can have your students create one like the one I did in my class this year (http://www.rundesroom.com/2012/09/math-journal-sundays-place-value.html).

Hello,

I have been looking at these for a while now, but have been holding off for your second edition you mentioned to another buyer. Will this be coming out soon? If not, and I purchase this, will I be able to purchase a ratio/proportion supplement later?

Thanks for this wonderful resource!

"In my curriculum (in Ontario), ratios is just one expectation out of over 40 in our Number Sense and Numeration strand. We relate it to fractions, and it usually just covers one lesson. For the most part, my journal entries were for the more major concepts studied, often covering 3 - 4 different lessons, or reviewing a few different expectations. I have, however, had a few people request something for ratios, so when I do a second edition of my journal (I'll be working on it over the summer), covering the journal entries from this year, I will include an entry for ratios. With my current journal, most of the journal templates are generic, so any number of them could be used to review proportional relationships."
