This is the only story in the whole world that could make me LIKE a cockroach! A beautiful story with breathtaking illustrations, written and illustrated by Janell Cannon. This unit is designed to be conducted after reading.
This is a packed, interactive, explicit instruction unit actively engaging students in the exploration of six tier 2 words designed to be used after reading "Crickwing." In my fifth grade classroom, I use these shorter read alouds to introduce more complex topics like theme and comparing across texts, while developing vocabulary background. The kids absolutely love these lessons and our focus words become part of our everyday classroom language. Most lessons only take about 30 minutes and move quickly!
