Intermediate Vocabulary Study (Explicit Instruction): Stellaluna

This is a packed, interactive, explicit instruction unit actively engaging students in the exploration of six tier 2 words designed to be used after reading "Stellaluna." In my fifth grade classroom, I use these shorter read alouds to introduce more complex topics like theme and comparing across texts, while developing vocabulary background. The kids absolutely love these lessons and our focus words become part of our everyday classroom language. Most lessons only take about 30 minutes and move quickly!

Included in this 41 slide set:

Day 1: Brief story summary in the form of a cooperative review, 3 words with three slides each that define, provide examples, and then engage students in at least 3 interactive and cooperative activities, quick review, and exit slip
Day 2: Brief character analysis cooperative review, 3 words with three slides each that define, provide examples, and engage students in at least 3 interactive and cooperative activities, quick review, and exit slip
Day 3: Cumulative review of all 6 words in three interactive activities including a Find Someone Who cooperative review.
Assessments: 6 word review & 2 extended response questions analyzing theme and plot/cause effect
Extras: Sentence strips, vocabulary cards for students to display during interactive lesson
