TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Principal at American Academy Casablanca (AAC) in Casablanca, Morocco from August 2011 to present. AAC is a leading American/International school in Morocco that provides a balanced social, physical, and academic curriculum in an atmosphere of mutual respect, dignity and trust, equipping our students to be productive citizens in the changing global society. We utilize advanced methods, resources, and technology in innovative and authentic ways to enhance learning and communication. Principal at Gyeongnam International Foreign School (GIFS) in Sacheon, South Korea from July 2010 to June 2011. GIFS is a small Pre-Kinder to grade twelve, WASC accredited school serving the foreign population around the Sachoen area with a teaching staff of 16 and approximately 100 students from over 18 countries. Responsibilities include management, supervision, recruiting, marketing, teaching, training, parent concerns, supervising students, monitoring the WASC accreditation process, conducting inter-mural activities, curriculum development and teacher professional development and evaluation. Assistant Principal at Escuela Internacional Sampedrana in San Pedro Sula, Honduras from July 2006 to June 2010. Among the many responsibilities are student and staff scheduling, clinical supervision of teachers, professional development of staff, organization of student assemblies and exams, budget revisions, technological and computer support and any other areas to assist the principal. My strong background in technology, computer and organizational skills plays an important role in this position. During this time, I presented for three annual conferences at the T3 Conferences (Teachers Teaching Teachers) held in San Pedro Sula on topics from Open Source Software for schools, Teaching to the Future, and Why Don't Students Like School. Philosophy, Journalism teacher and Head of Department at Escuela Internacional Sampedrana from August 2003 to June 2006. During the 2003-4 school year, I taught philosophy and journalism. In 2004-5, I continued teaching philosophy and was Head of the Social Studies Department. I was faculty adviser of the chess club and assisted with the Model United Nations (MUN). I sat on several school committees including the Strategic Planning Committee, Budget sub-committee, Handbook Revision Committee and the National Honor Society Faculty Council. I give professional development training in various school computer programs including Edline, GradeQuick, ExamView Test generator, how to avoid plagiarism using Turnitin.com and using surveys for educational purposes on zoomerang.com. Social Studies/Philosophy Teacher at Colegio Americano de Torreon for grades seven, ten and twelve from August 2002 to June 2003. In 2002-2003, I taught grade seven World History and Geography. In 2004, I taught grade twelve Philosophy, Analysis of Political Text, Advanced Economics and grade ten Modern World History. I developed the curriculum for both the Philosophy and Analysis classes, was the faculty adviser for the chess club and sat on the Peer Tutoring Committee which arranged student tutors for other at risk students. Social Studies Teacher at the Majuro Co-op School for grades six, seven and eight from August 2001 to June 2002. My responsibilities include home room supervision, curriculum planning and also developing programs for teaching chess and music. I also developed the web page for the school and took over for the Principal when she was on holiday or at conferences. Visiting Lecturer in the department of English Language and Literature at Nam Seoul University from August 2000 to August 2001 teaching freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors English classes in conversation and composition. I was responsible for all aspects of all the classes including the text book, syllabus design and testing. This position consisted of more than teaching ESL as students were English language majors and received advanced courses conversation, writing, reading, pronunciation, grammar and linguistics. ESL Publishing, Taegu, South Korea. As a freelance ESL children's story writers, my wife and I developed story ideas, questions and vocabulary for various levels of stories for children. Themes include biographies, school, professions, foods, animals and many others. Several of our books were published and used at private language institutes in Korea. Visiting Lecturer in the department of English Language and Literature at Keimyung University from March 1996 to December 1999, teaching freshmen, sophomores and juniors English conversation and composition. Students were majors in the Department of English and graduated to take jobs in business, as teachers or translators where an excellent command of the English language is necessary. Instructor at the Taegu National University of Education, Teacher Training Center. I taught Korean elementary, middle and high school teachers the basics of classroom English, giving directions and comparisons in intensive six week courses held during the summer and winter vacations. January 1997 to December 1999. English Adviser and Editor to the Keimyung Gazette magazine, an English language magazine published four times a year by the students of Keimyung University. September 1997 to December 1999. Besides editing news, sports and feature stories for students and teachers, I often wrote a column for the magazine as well. English Instructor at the ECC Institute in West Taegu from January to December, 1995, teaching all levels of students from primary to adults.
