This file is part of a larger file, iLearn Science PowerPoint and Activities. I like to give you a lot of choices for purchasing to meet the needs of your classroom!

Scientific Thinking and Measurement Stations are great for introducing science measurement and thinking at the beginning of the year.
The 8 stations focus on mass, temperature, volume, time, hand lens, length, classifying, and safety.

A Student Sheet goes along with the stations for recording their work.

Stations can be set up quickly using basic supplies you likely already have!

What You Need for Each Station:
Mass- triple beam balance, bag of things to measure
Temperature- 2 cups labeled Cup #1 and Cup #2 (both need to be filled halfway with water, Cup #2 needs several ice cubes in it), thermometer
Volume- 3 graduated cylinders labeled #1, #2, and #3, cup of water, cup of water with lip for pouring, pipette, optional: food coloring for the water)
Time- stopwatch, small ball
Hand Lens- small object (I suggest a coin on a paper plate), 2 hand lenses
Length- small long object (I suggest tweezers or a small stick), centimeter ruler
Classifying- about 20-30 beans from 15 bean soup mix (found in the grocery store for cheap) on a paper plate or tray
Safety- basic safety supplies like goggles, aprons, and gloves
**You may want to provide colored pencils at Volume, Hand Lens, Classifying, and Safety.
**Each student needs a front/back copy of the Student Sheet.

Thank you for creating these! Before I invest, are these in line of the CCS? I know that the new standards are out, but there is little change from the old standards for elementary. Thank you again!

These are introductory stations for skills that will need to be used for science labs throughout the year. While they don't address a particular standard, the skills are needed to address future standards. Thank you!
