This is a great activity that gets students thinking about the concepts surrounding a novel, a short story or even a social studies unit.
Worksheet has 9 "puzzle pieces" each with a statement of personal belief. This file has a sample for use with the novel The Whale Rider ("It is essential to test new products on animals before humans use them.")
Students cut out the segments and reassemble the diamond putting the belief they most agree with at the top and working their way down to the statement they least agree with at the bottom.
There is also one segment that is blank for the students to add their own statement.
This activity is repeated at the end of the unit. Students can compare the two to see if their feelings/beliefs have changed over the course of the unit.
This file includes one blank diamond and one filled in as an example.

Help
I am in the midst of my sixth year teaching at the highschool level. My subjects include junior and senior English, the Social Sciences and Canadian Law although I will teach whatever they send my way!
