This 29 slide powerpoint focuses on irony in literature, speech, and pictures. It includes a detailed definition and explains four types of irony (situational, verbal, dramatic, and cosmic) with examples of each. It also includes a study of four different authors and their worksthat illustrate irony: Alanis Morisette and the lyrics to her song "Ironic"; O. Henry and his short story "Gift of the Magi", complete with a link to a wonderful audio version of the short story; Stevie Smith and the text of her poem "Not Waving But Drowning"; and the complete text of the short story "Nightmare in Yellow" by Fredric Brown. Created by Beverly Brown, this presentation is fully animated and illustrated with numerous incredible ironic pictures.

This was a really great Powerpoint! I have to admit the ending was a little confusing for my SPED students but otherwise I loved it.

Great presentation! My students really enjoyed the images as an introduction to understanding irony. The slides were beautifully set up and clear. The only adjustment I needed to make to the presentation was the speed of the slides. They were on medium but, because of the fade-in effect they seemed so slow. So I just adjusted the slides to fast.I had to skip the story examples, as we had not read them yet, but I adapted those slides to include stories we have read. Overall, an excellent Power Point that I highly recommend.

This powerpoint had a lot of potential. There are some great images and examples that work really well in the class. Some of the words are not sized correctly, so they seem to look awkward in the frame. Most importantly, there are inaccurate depictions of irony, which could confuse students as to what irony actually is. Like I said, this is a great start to a power point. I ended up taking out about half of the slide, and switched a bunch of things around, but it turned out to be really useful.

Perhaps your computer doesn't recognize the font I used and is substituting another font that does not fit. Addressing your content criticism, this powerpoint is well- researched, and there are NO inaccurate depictions of irony. While scholars may debate what is actually considered ironic, it is important to expose students to all aspects of learning that is considered to be irony. This powerpoint blends interesting and humorous images with many examples and thorough text to become a useful tool to fully teach irony in a classroom setting.

I just downloaded your irony power point, and I am not getting any of the sound icons to play anything on the two slides that have them. Any suggestions? I clicked on them when they didn't auto play and it said "cannot download the information you requested."
