Even though this packet is fun to use for Valentines Day, it can really be used any time throughout the year. All the activities are based on hearts; not Valentines. Students use hearts to sort word families, match color and number words, hunt for sight words, and construct sentences. A word family sorting activity is included where students follow step by step illustrations to create a Queen of Hearts and her tarts. Students write or glue the word families upon the construction paper tarts. The activities in this packet range from easy (sight word hunt) to more challenging (sentence construction)
Common Core Standards:
1. We can isolate and pronounce the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in CVC words.
2. We can add or substitute individual sounds in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.
3. We can read common high-frequency words by sight.
