Introduce your students to the at, ell, ip, op, and ug word families. Use these word families to teach 80 CVC words through a fun, upbeat media file to use on your Smart Board, interactive whiteboard, or student computers. Use the song to teach reading these word families or for teaching the phonemic awareness skills of rhyming and substitution of the first sound of a word. Phonics can be fun!
This is a .mov file that can be opened with Quick Time on your computer. You no longer have to worry about syncing a power point with the song and setting the timing. It is ready to use on your students computers or interactive whiteboard. You can use it with your Smart Board and pause during the slides to highlight words, letters, or strategies. The "It's Great to Be Reading" songs are what I use as anchors to build around all of our word families. Then when we come to a different word family that is not on one of those 2 songs, we sing the song and substitute it with the new word family. And we play if you can read . . . then you can read . . . Same thing for spelling. Thanks for purchasing another product and for leaving feedback every time. I really appreciate it.

You will love this when you are teaching work families next year. I teach these first since all of the vowels are covered and then we sing a quick version of the song when we add more word families. If they get stuck on a word during guided reading, we look to see if it has a chunk we know. Then usually they break out in a song:) I will be heading to your store soon. I am at Special Olympics with my daughter for the next few days and then its time for all of those end of the year assessments and report cards. 11 more days:)

What I like about this one is that it can transfer to any word family that you want to teach. Once they get the song down, I have them go get another word family and we "sing" the word family card. Yay! Once the children have the song down, have them transfer it to other word families in your room. For example: "an makes the sound of an. Add a p and you have pan." We create charts for many word families. When they come to a word that has one of those word families, I prompt them with the song. Also, make word lists with a picture clue at the top. Play the game if you can read . . . you can read . . . ! Happy reading!

Here is what I like about It's Great to Be Reading (CVC Words) and the It's Great to Be Reading (other version with harder word families). They get the song in their head, so you can transfer it over to any word family. I have a wall with pictures for many word families. Look for that picture next week on my blog http://kathygriffin.blogspot.com and they sing while they are working on those words. All I have to do is give them a prompt: at makes the sound of "at" or ing makes the sound of "ing" add a k and you have king. It gives them an anchor for substituting sounds and learning all of those crucial words families. I am so glad your students are loving them. Tell them Mrs. Griffin said, "Hi and have fun singing!"
