Need a song to help teach the rule of the silent "e" that helps them remember and apply it to other words? Kathy Griffin uses a familiar childrens' song and changes it to teach what readers do when they come to a word with an "e" at the end. This song will transition children over from reading C-V-C words and help build the number of words they can read.
Kathy Griffin has also created a multimedia file and books to help reinforce this song using visual strategies to help connect the song. Use the books during guided reading, before word work, as a word search for word wall words, in the listening center, and as homework to help parents understand the "silent e" rule. Use the multimedia file on your digital projector, Smart Board, interactive whiteboard, or student computers. Differentiate to meet the needs of your students on grade level, struggling readers, or those who are reading for the next challenge.

Kathy has 15 years teaching experience and currently teaches 1st grade. She has experience teaching in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. Kathy also worked for the OK State Department of Education on a grant for including children with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
