I created this lesson for teaching the students about Jimmy Carter, one of the people included in the Georgia history curriculum. I taught the lesson in one and a half 55 minute class periods. The lesson includes an activating activity, a reading activity, and a summarizing activity. The preview will allow you to view JPEGs of the power point and the lesson materials. The zip file will include these three documents:
1. Lesson Plan Materials: a lesson plan explaining how I used these materials in my classroom, a blank graphic organizer for the students, a lengthy list of Carter quotations to use in the lesson opener, and an answer key for the graphic organizer.
2. Copy of the New Georgia Encyclopedia Entry for Carter: you can easily download this article from the encyclopedia's website. I have included it here because I formatted it for easy copying and distribution to the students.
3. Carter Power Point: the slide show is largely a pictorial outline of Carter's career. I used it to "illustrate" our class discussion. It does include some political cartoons and the two electoral maps.
Thank you for looking and please let me know if you have any questions.

Help
I have taught middle school for fifteen years in a large suburban district just north of Atlanta, Georgia. I have taught all three grade levels both language arts and social studies. This year, I will be serving as the school's full-time literacy coach.
