These quick and fun guided journal pages are a great alternative to traditional journals and writing prompts! Reluctant writers will love the appealing, half-page format. The 16 different pages allow for plenty of choices.

To use, simply print pages, cut in half (there are two identical pages per sheet) and allow your students to choose the pages they want to use. The pages are open-ended, so they can be used again and again.

Students can keep their pages in folders and then bind them into books when the journals are complete. You could use this for a few weeks or for the entire year. It would also make a terrific summer project. A Journal Record Sheet is included to help students keep track of which pages they complete each week.

You could also use them as stand-alone activities.

The following pages are included:

-How I feel
-I Remember
-I Tried Something New!
-Here's What Happened
-I have a Goal
-I Did It!
-My Wish
-I am Worried
-I Feel Angry
-Today is Special
-I read a Book!
-Ponderings
-My List
-My Day
-I Went Somewhere
-Freestyle (no title)
-Journal Record Sheet

I think maybe it has to do with different versions of Word. Here is what I told Parkepreschool:

I looked at the document again and I am wondering if it is your page layout settings that have gotten messed up. Try this: under Page Layout (on the Word menu bar), be sure you have it set for landscape orientation and that you have selected "multiple pages - 2 pages per sheet"

You may have to look around a bit to find it...it is all together on MS 2007, but I think it maybe be somewhere else in earlier versions.

Hope that helps!

I really want to use these with my 2nd grader, but when I go to print it won't print two on a page or even one on a page looks funny. Is there a way to change the page set up? I might have an old version of what you used, I don't know. But the papers looks so cute, they just won't print cute.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching. I also love knowing that my products help thousands of teachers and reach tens of thousands of students.
