This is an assignment sheet I used for both yearbook and newspaper staff members. When an editor or staff member had an assignment for another student, they used this sheet to give the specifics of the assignment (for writers, photographers, and design/layout). For example, if a student editor assigned a news story, he/she would fill this out with specifics for the writer: the angle of the story, potential people to interview, possible questions to ask, deadline; photographer: what kind of picture(s) needed, size of images, where to save; design: which page story goes on, whether graph or other visuals needed, etc. When the student(s) finish the assignment, they sign the form and turn it in to their editor. There is a space for the advisor to check whether it was completed. This really helps with the organization & communication between staff members. It also teaches the students to be responsible & plan out exactly what they need or want (rather than the advisor having to do that for them!).

I've been teaching at my current public high school for twelve years, and have a total of 16 years experience. Most of my experience is teaching high school English and journalism classes; however, for several years I taught an art history class. I teach all levels--from honors students to special education students; therefore, I'm constantly modifying my assignments to fit my students' needs.
