This set of ready-to-go centers has been created especially for teachers who want their students to accelerate during center time...as well as teachers who want meaningful centers without tons of prep work and tons of pieces to store. These were created so that students can work independently and at their level while their teacher pulls small groups. There are 20 different activities (more than 20 weeks worth of weekly centers!)that start simple and get progressively more difficult each week. Also included are blank magazine hunts so that the teacher can decide what you want your students looking for allowing for differentiation in mind. For each center, the only work the teacher has to do is copy a form for each student and have scissors and magazines available for the students. The students look for the items on their sheet (a picture that starts with the a sound or an animal in its habitat or a word you can hear the ow chunk in, etc). The students don't even realize they are working they have so much FUN searching for items. This series correlates with the Treasures reading series (I have one center per unit) BUT is also flexible and kindergarten ready enough for a classroom that is not because the students are looking for items that a typical kindergarten classroom works on a regular basis. Work smarter, not harder teachers! If you use my centers, they are all planned for you and all you have to do is photocopy, leaving you more time to plan for small group instruction!

What kinds of magazines do you use? I didn't know if you had suggestions of magazines that don't offend anyone in your class...:)

Better Homes and Gardens, Food magazines, popular mechanics...you can ask teachers and families to donate and you'll get more than you ever wanted. Hope this helps!

Does this coordinate with Kindergarten Treasures or First Grade Treasures?

Kindergarten Treasures! I put first grade because it is a set that can be used even if you aren't following treasures and would be great as independent centers in first grade! Hope that helps!

Can you explain a little bit of what students are "hunting" for? I teach special education and do not want this to be too difficult.

It starts out easy and progressively gets harder...they are looking for (examples) a pic that starts with the /p/ sound, the word "the", or a pic of a family...it isn't too hard, but definitely gets children to look at the details of things...great for a combo of PA skills, sight word practice and vocabulary. I guess it would depend what level you teach at. If it is K or 1, they would need support likely since it designed for as an independent activity for typical students at that level. Hope this helps answer your question!

I am a kindergarten teacher and have been for over 12 years now. I love teaching 5 and 6 year olds, mainly because they are so eager to learn and love me no matter what! I specialize in teaching differentially and focussing on children's individual needs, so that is what you will find in my products. All of my products have been classroom tested and have many different uses.
