Here is what you need to start teaching the new Common Core Standards in Mathematics, Counting and Cardinality. For each of the seven standards there is a reproducible student-friendly mini-poster, skill-based flip booklet, delightful worksheet and a certificate to reward student achievement. Each page is available as a black and white student reproducible as well as a full color teacher sample.

Standards covered include: K.CC-1a Counting to 100 by ones, K.CC-1b Counting to 100 by 10's, K.CC-2 Counting forward from a given number, K.CC-3 Writing the numbers to 20, K.CC-4 Understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities, K.CC-5 Counting to answer "How many?", K.CC-6 Comparing groups: more than, less than or equal to, and K.CC-7 Comparing two numbers between 1 and 10.

These materials can be used to supplement any existing mathematics program or as a stand-alone math program.

I am new of common core lessons and trying to find and get a better idea. Do you teach all the counting and cardinality together, then move on to next standard, or do you mix standards up like counting and cardinality with geometry.

In talking to other teachers about this, I have discovered that since the standards are new and that most school districts are still using officially adopted math programs, most teachers are trying to match new standards to the old program whenever possible. Of course, this doesn't always work out because they often do not match and many of them are not covered in the old programs. Those teachers who are using just the new standards mix them up. For example, they teach simple shapes first, then numbers 0-10, go back to 3-D shapes, and then teach numbers 11-20, with all of the other standards mixed in there too. Hope this helps.
