My Kindergarten homework philosophy is that I give very short assignments that reinforce what I teach and help the children learn responsibility for doing regular homework and returning it to school each week. My students earn reward tickets which they can buy prizes with through our PTA for returning their homework on time.
I have designed the homework to be used year after year by assigning homework on weeks 1-4 of each month and then giving kids a vacation from homework on any fifth weeks.
I have added another instruction page that will work with Nicky's Folders (vinyl homework folders I bought this year online)

Added a few pages for December for those that can not or do not include Christmas. These pages are at the very end of the file.

I have now included Microsoft Word versions of the calendars in case you want to edit them. Please respect copyrighted pictures by not using them for any other purpose than leaving them on the pages.

Please excuse the mistake.
Hi Cindy,
Yvette here. May I have the actual HW calendars in a format ie: ("editable" Word) that I can make a few changes based on my new Reading, Math and Science program.
I would like to begin using these in 1 week. If time is an issue and I can only guess how busy you are send Sept. first. I would like to add and delete some HW.

Would you be able to change December's homework to not include any assignments pertaining to Christmas? I think they're great, it's just that my school does not allow any religious holiday activities. It would just need a different family home project and the writing assignment about making a Christmas list would need to be changed a bit. Thanks so much!!

I will be totally honest and tell you that I really didn't go through and make sure it was aligned with the core. I went through and put things in there that I knew were in the core and things that were easy to explain and for parents to do at home. I included reading skills, letters/sounds, math, and writing. There are also some science and social studies activities that many of the parents commented were their children's favorites.

The way the days and months are set up, is it according to the 2012-2013 calendar? For example, if the first day of september isn't on a monday, how do you still go according to the calendar? Thanks

In my instructions to parents this is the first line: "Homework will be assigned for the first 4 weeks in the month. If there is a 5th week consider it a little vacation. You will only be responsible for Home Reading minutes during the 5th week. Please begin the first week when you receive that month’s homework."
If the month begins in the middle of a week I usually just send it home the first Monday of the month. Sometimes I will send it home the Monday before, it just depends on my schedule or if the month is short like December (because of holidays) or February.
Hope that makes sense.

I'm sorry I just noted that the page I'm visiting is labeled Kindergarten monthly homework packets. Do you know if I might be able to find a 1st grade packet like yours, (that is aligned with the grade level standards like yours is)?

I don't know of any. I have created my homework packets for Kindergarten and might consider making one for 1st grade but am not sure when that might be as I am working on a Masters program and have 4 classes this summer.

The homework packets were designed for my Kindergarten students but depending on your school might be appropriate for your students. The homework has activities that are easy to do and that only take a few minutes each day. I have had another teacher ask about me making one for first grade. I am thinking about trying to do one over the summer that would be aligned to the 1st grade common core. It will all depend on the classes I'm taking.

Can you send copies of the other two nursery rhymes for May homework? It can be the same format as the Jack be Nimble rhyme. Some of my students are going to need the words and it would be helpful for when they have to say it week one and then read and point week 2.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I didn't realize I had a message. Right now September through February has been added. I will be adding March through May soon and will update and notify buyers to re-download. The assignments are probably pretty easy for higher level 1st graders. None of the assignments are meant to be very difficult. They are designed to be a review of concepts in order to give students the practice and responsibility of returning their homework on a regular basis. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
